Buckeye Player Profile - Johnnie Cowan
        Johnnie Cowan was born on May 31, 1913 in Pleasant Hill, Alabama. He was
right handed and played second base, third base and shortstop for the
Buckeyes from 1942-1947 except for 1943. He also played briefly in 1940 for the 
Birmingham Black Barons.  He played in 1948 for the Memphis Red Sox.
         Information about Cowan is limited except for his baseball statistics.
He played for the 1945 World Champion Cleveland Buckeyes and for the 1947
Cleveland Buckeyes who won the Negro American League but lost the World
Series to the New York Cubans.
        He also played for an independent minor league team in 1950, 
the Elmwood Giants in the Mandak League, an independent minor league
located in Manitoba, Canada and North Dakota.  
        He passed away on October 24, 1993.
        His statistics are listed below although his Negro League numbers are 
incomplete due to a lack of official Negro League statistics.
